As we move ever closer to what seems an inevitable war with Iraq, we find ourselves bombarded on all sides with facts and factoids. On the left we have knee-jerk "America Bad" sloganeering, with Dubya compared unfavorably to Sadaam and Hitler. There is a similar emotionalism on the right. One recent poll found that most Americans now believe Iraq was behind September 11, despite the fact that there were no Iraqis on any of the planes and despite a complete lack of evidence tying Iraq to the hijackings.

If we are to become embroiled in a bloody battle, we should first separate the truth from fiction. What follows is an attempt at doing that: an analysis of some of the myths which have arisen about Iraq, compared with the actual evidence.
