There was little in the way of rioting and power was restored within a reasonably brief period. We should count ourselves fortunate: there have been many instances where human error has proven far more costly. What follows is a brief catalogue of some of history's worst manmade natural disasters. Some of these are well-known: some have become lost in the mists of history.
