discussions

In the beginning the Internet was an interactive medium: you were expected to contribute content, not just stare blankly at Flash presentations. One of the first great discussions forums was Usenet... and one of the stupidest and most troll-infested corners of Usenet was my favorite group, alt.satanism. (Since my departure, alt.religion.wicca has taken alt.satanism's jingly Idiot Hat away). Like most people, I've generally abandoned Usenet to the idiots and spammers.... it's yet another great idea which fell prey to the "Tragedy of the Commons."

There are several decent mailing lists on Yahoo Groups which may prove interesting. Tristatevodou is moderated by my partner Kathy and myself; I also moderate American Voodoo Forum. If these whet your interest, you may also want to check out Houngan Aboudja's VodouSpirit and Rev. Samantha Kaye's Spellmaker, two other mailing lists where I am a regular contributor.

Kathy also moderates the Vodou tribe on Tribe.net; if you haven't yet joined Tribe, it's a great place to meet Burning Man types and even to have an occasional intelligent conversation.

Livejournal also has a few good communities. I've had some interesting exchanges on the Polyamory, Dark Paganism, and Nonfluffy Pagans communities... and managed to sharpen my claws in a most delightful fashion on Dot.Poly.Snark.
